So would all the chests across Cantha location have double-rare drop? And what are the chance of getting something good from like a Shing Jea Chest?

It did change, just not at the beginning, there was an update later that day that fixed it.

It is called a chest "run" because you bring your character with primarily running and defensive/survival skills instead of fighting. You don't pay others to open chests for you as that wouldn't really do any good. You would still have to get to the chest yourself to open it with all the enemies in the way.

1) how long you going to run for?
a) if your going for the whole weekend then it doesn't mattter. 250 or 5 keys.
b) if your going to run Kuz side for 10 mins then swap to Lux and repeat. i would say 10 of each.
c) if your going to run (not fight) a misson then 3

IMO --> just buy 10 keys.. open 10 chest.. if you feel lucky get 10 more and repeat. Trying to say do as many as you feel

2) no (and never) do you need to pay anyone. your not running the FOW are you? don't think FOW chest running was part of the plan this weekend. just Cantha areas.
a) you could pay someone to learn the path or spots but it's better and fun to just join up and look and learn.

Your team needs to pay 1k to get into FoW, because that is the entrance fee. It doesn't matter if you're doing the quests there, chest runs, or dancing in front of the Ghost near the spawn point. The others are explorable areas that do not require you to pay anything to get into, just walk through the portal.

Paying 1k at ToA is the easiest way to FoW, anyone know if you still need to pay 1k at the portal in Lornar's Pass (or wherever that is)?

Oh that makes sence. I forgot about the entrance fee lol

Oh and thank you everyone for answering my questions!

I think I am ready to do some chest running this weekend, if I can get my warrior or ranger to Raisu Palace in time, since that is one of the top chest areas (according to the OP) and it is farther than Nahpui Quarter (from my understanding, you have a higher change of getting better/max items farther in the game. Am I correct on this? Plus there seems to always be chest groups forming there.)

Raisu or more specifically launching from Imperial Sanctum is the very end of the game. You will need to get all the way through one side of the factions, either Kurzik or Luxon, to be able to get there.

Honestly, unless there is something you are specifically going for in those currently popular places, Celestials in Nahpui, or whatever in Raisu, I would avoid them. For someone very new to chest running, there can be quite a bit of elitism in those spots. I will bet that there will be a number of threads on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from the pro runners complaining about the n00b players invading their space and screwing up their runs.

I think the best way to break into those areas is to ask a guildie or even someone on the forums to teach you the ropes for that area a bit before taking them on and joining random groups.

Once you get past the city (Luxon or Kurzik territories) you should be able to get max dmg drops when gold from the chests without a problem. You can also get perfect mods in those areas. From that point on in the game, it just really depends on which skins you get in which area.

Gamecube187 - you have to pay for FoW chest run because it costs the party to enter the FoW in the first place Also there are a few running builds, I have used a W/R and W/Mo before, am sure the builds page will have more details for you too look at.

Beaten to it!

The "temple of Grenth" in Lornar's Pass has been changed and no longer allows entry into UW, even if your region has favor and you have the cash on you when you reach it. Currently, the only way to enter UW/FoW is from Temple of Ages in Tyria or Zin Ku Corridor in Cantha.

What no one seems to be mentioning is the fact that town-holding alliances get their keys cheaper from the merchant in the exclusive area who offers a 20% discount on all item prices. If you are in a town-holding alliance (or manage to join one for the weekend) you could make great inroads towards your chest-opening title this weekend at less cost than usual.

If you're into doing solo chest runs (as opposed to full-party ones that start off from Imperial Sanctum or Nahpui Quarter) I highly recommend the scouting quest outside of Breaker Hollow in Mount Quinkai. You get 2000 XP + 400 Luxon faction + 150 gold for about a 10 minute investment while looking for chests in arguably the easiest part of Cantha to run. Granted, you won't have the benefit of someone else checking the chest for you to save your key for a gold drop, but the other benefits of doing the run should make up for it.

Are you sure about that? I was at the statue a couple of days ago and the option to pay 1k was still there (we had favor at the time). If you can't get into the UW from there any more, what do you get for your 1k now?
